Optimal Stochastic Control of Energy Storage System Based on Pontryagin Minimum Principle for Flattening PEV Fast Charging in a Service Area

This letter discusses stochastic optimal control of an energy storage system (ESS) for reducing the impact on grid fast charging electric vehicles in a area. A trade off is achieved between objectives limiting power exchanged with grid, and one fluctuation, around given reference, ESS energy. We show that solution problem can be derived from related deterministic problem, requiring realistic assumption area operator knows estimate aggregated demand over day. In addition, two alternative configurations are discussed, it shown that, while they share same solution, better mitigates uncertainty. Numeric simulations provided to validate proposed approach.
